Black On Black + Gold

‘Tis the season for that crazy little thing called love. Think cuddles with bae (among other, not-so-PG pastimes) and confectionary delights by the pound. In real world speak, Valentine’s Day typically translates to these things (in some form or another, at least). But in blogger speak, Valentine’s Day typically translates to, ahem, ‘impromptu’ photo shoots at a local café followed by a stroll through freezing rain (or something like that, at least).

I’ll admit – I originally intended to position this post as an “unexpected Valentine’s Day OOTD”. When one thinks of V-Day attire, often pink or red come to mind. While I don’t mind a touch of such shades (usually by way of a lipstick), there’s something so timeless and so chic about a black on black outfit (with gold accents, of course) for date night or for girl’s night.

As it were, this post has morphed into a pseudo virtual tour of my NYC neighbourhood – the Upper West Side. And if I’m keeping it real – because of course I am – I’m typically not one to stroll through freezing rain (like, ever) but ehhh there’s no rest for the wicked, amiright?

A quick stop at Magnolia Bakery involved coffee and, obviously, a cupcake. Any food item that’s as delicious as it is cute is a score in my books.

And any food item that’s Instagram-able as it’s being consumed is the ultimate score in my books.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate this edible artistry, shall we? P.S. I’m told that Magnolia’s banana pudding is something of a wonder, so stay tuned for an update on that.

Following the gluttonous moment not pictured above (because there’s no way I can make stuffing my face with a cupcake look cute), I braved the freezing rain and slick af sidewalks.

In fact, the sidewalks were so slippery they proved a death trap for myself, my friend/photographer/coolest gal pal in NYC and the remainder of New York plebeians.

Then again, what outing is worthy if not for a near-death experience? (I suppose a black on black outfit is totes apropos ~ba dum tss~).

Oh yeah, happy Valentine’s Day, friends!
