9 TO 5 MONOCHROME

When I’m feeling dimmer than usual in the A.M. I typically turn to a monochrome outfit. I’ll be the first to admit that mornings and I aren’t exactly a compatible pair but as the 9 to 5 life would have it, looking put together is key and, for me, so too is looking stylish. The way I see it, you can achieve both with a monochrome outfit. The black/white combo is a timeless look, so you needn’t worry about looking out of place or out of date.

For starters, you can never go wrong with a pair of black slacks. I’m a well-known fan of slacks, khakis and basically any just-above-the-ankle pants (as featured in How to mix and match patterns). When paired with a pointy-toe pump, the combo makes for a chic and polished look.

My closet is also overrun (or nearly, at least) with sleeveless blouses that I tend to wear religiously throughout the spring and summer months, sometimes even into the fall. It’s no surprise that when I saw this checkered number my credit card spoke to me in its usual, seductive way.

A great way to punch up a monochrome outfit is with a pop of colour. I tend to opt for a bold lip but accessories are also a good option. Of course, I’ve been leaning toward minimalist jewellery as of late though I think the look suits a monochrome outfit well – heck, it suits just about any outfit well – namely because it adds to the whole ‘timeless’ aspect of the ensemble.
