March 20th may mark the first day of spring but with temperatures hovering just above zero old man winter – like the stubborn geezer he is – isn’t quite done with us as of yet. And so, we find ourselves exhaling a collective *le sigh* as we mitigate spring and winter wear. Cue a transitional outfit à la culottes (also featured in Fall Culottes OOTD), layered garments and slingback flats.
A transitional outfit (in this case, winter to spring) is all about mixing winter pieces with spring pieces. We all know that winter is about dem layers, so while both blouse and sweater can be worn alone, for added warmth I decided to pair them together.
I’m all for a layered blouse and sweater combo any time of year, but I think it’s most practical for a transitional outfit. When I start to get a little toasty, it’s easy enough to remove either layer while maintaining seasonal appropriateness.
This lace-up v-neck trend has been dominating my Insta feed as of late. I enjoy being able to layer a blouse beneath it as I rarely wear low-cut shirts (yes, I consider this low cut). As it were, I do intend to rock it sans blouse – per chance for a future post? We shall see!
While I believe any season is cause for culottes, I think they function particularly well as part of a transitional outfit. Culottes show a little leg without overexposing – that and they’re wearable with just about any and all footwear.
As part of a fall outfit I paired these bad boys with over-the-knee boots. Naturally they function equally as well with these slingback flats from ALDO’s SS’16 collection. I’ve actually yet to wear them with heels though I have no doubt that they’d look just as rad.
But no outfit – transitional or other – is complete without jewellery. Ear jackets are another trending item that I just cant get enough of this season.
This particular pair is from odette + ophelia (P.S. They’re Canadian!) I love the playful minimalism of these ear jackets – they’re chic yet most definitely still wearable on an everyday basis. Talk about #versatility. If you love them as much as I do (or anything else on the site) use “NAT15” for 15% off your purchase.
