#Benebabes be bananas for a brand new Benefit prod release (myself most definitely included). Just-in is Benefit’s the POREfessional Matte Rescue Mattifying Gel – the #nofilter filter. Let me begin by saying that while I’ve come to accept blotting as an unavoidable part of my day, Benefit’s POREfessional line certainly helps to circumvent the number of times I need to blot my slick schnoz, ya feel?

In fact, I’ve been using the POREfessional Agent Zero Shine since my visit to the Toronto Benefit Boutique last summer and I absolutely l.o.v.e it. So, upon the release of the POREfessional Matte Rescue Mattifying Gel, I quite literally stalked my local Sephora until I spotted said product on those purdy pink shelves.

But let’s talk shop: the POREfessional Matte Rescue Mattifying Gel is an invisible-finish gel that can be worn alone or beneath makeup to absorb surface oil and minimize pores. The secret is diamond powder, which creates a soft-focus effect.

The gel itself has a soft blueish tint, but as soon as it’s rubbed in it becomes clear. I’d be amiss if I didn’t mention the fact that the POREfessional Matte Rescue Mattifying Gel smells fab-u-lous! I can’t quite pinpoint the scent, but it’s somewhere between fresh and fruity. Fruitie tootie oh dat Bene booty (side note: makeup wins sometimes cause me to break into nonsensical rhymes).

In terms of application, the mattifying effects are quite literally instant and just a dollop of product does indeed go a v, v long way. In fact, the dollop pictured above was enough to cover the back of my hand and bam, baby, bam, just look at how it mattifies!

Without a doubt this product does what it promises, but admittedly it hasn’t totally eliminated my need to blot. To that point, however, it certainly has helped to prevent my makeup from sliding off throughout the day and I do find it helps to tame and control oil build-up. My makeup also looks more mattified upon application, too.

While Benefit suggests using the POREfessional Matte Rescue Mattifying Gel with the POREfessional Face Primer I’ve yet to try this. To be honest, I know there are all-in-one products that mattify as well as prime so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Benefit releases a product such as this in the future.

Overall, I’m pleased with the POREfessional Matte Rescue and will be incorporating it into my daily makeup routine. Have you tried any of Benefit’s POREfessional products? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Thanks for trying out and reviewing these products for us, Nat! I haven’t been able to keep up but you’ve been rockin’ the reviews lately.

I have to say the before and after photos in this one had me doing a double-take! I seriously thought there was a smudge on my phone screen causing that after image to look blurry — nope, it was just your hand looking truly mattified. That’s a pretty dramatic before and after.

I don’t know if this product is for me as my skin is very dry and I need to keep my oils in place (lol). But thanks to your review I do think it’s worth asking for a sample of this product to see if I can somehow work it into my pre-makeup routine to keep my pores on the DL in my finished look.

Keep up the great work, my friend!

    1. Jes!!! You’ve been killing it too girl! Haha it’s funny you mention that about your phone. I retook this photo a couple of times thinking that the camera was out of focus but nope it’s just that legit! Benefit products usually are (you already know I’m a fan lol). Let me know if you try it – I am curious to see how it would perform on dry skin. Xx

  2. I never used any product from their line. But can we take a moment to appreciate this BEAUTIFUL and shiny packaging? I would buy it solely on the basis of its glam-looking tube.
