As I write this post, I find my gaze wandering – perhaps a little too often, in fact. The view from my building’s lounge is really quite spectacular; glass-paned high-rises clutter the skyline while a gentle rain drizzles to the depths below. Up here, I seek solace – but I’m never too far removed from the familiar noises of New York City. There are always sirens to be heard and the not-so-occasional honk, too.
Manhattan and I are currently in the honeymoon phase of our still-new relationship (jussst in case I haven’t made that obvious enough). I’ve quickly made the concrete jungle my home and what better way to celebrate than with a late summer outfit that’s as wild as this city makes me feel? I’ve received endless compliments on this Zara number, and (admittedly) I’m not all too surprised.
It’s got a little bit everything – from a lapel collar to multiple silts, I was drawn to this dress (or long tunic, as it’s described) for it’s pattern. It’s no secret that I’m die-hard for button-downs, however; anything that has a preppy-ish element typically tickles my fancy. The waist-tie is really slimming, too. Anddd have I mentioned the fact that it even has pockets? Like, hello! Zara, you win this round with your mass-produced designs. Bravo.
In fairness to the rest of my wardrobe I’ve had to limit myself to wearing this dress to once per week. Speaking of which, I paired said dress with these sold-out Sole Society gladiators and this over-sized Sole Society tote. The sandals were purchased out of necessity (given to the fact that the only pair of sandals I brought with me when moving were my Birkenstocks) and, eh, they’re a size five (that alone was reason enough to purchase).
As for the tote, I’ve found myself paper-bagging my lunches so I need something large and in-charge to carry my life and further contribute to my pack-mule status.
To complete this look, I wore this BaubleBar choker, which is basically the best thing since sliced bread (exaggerating, of course – but it is pretty awesome). It’s just about as versatile as this dress – I love to wear it as is or wrap it once around my neck or (yes, there’s more), loop it once for a more streamlined look.
What is your go-to late summer outfit?
